Computer repair in Miami how to:

As you well know, if you live in Miami - Pinecrest - Kendall - or anywhere for that matter, there are lots of lightning storms through out the year. The first thing that you need to do is purchase a battery backup system to prevent your desktop or laptop from being toast. One of the mistakes that people make when connecting their electronic device to the battery backup is that they do not connect it to the battery outlets. Instead, the computer is connected to the surge protector plugs.

Another issue facing computer users is backing up your data on a regular basis. You can replace your hardware, you can not replace your data! I highly recommend purchasing a backup system such as IOmega backup cartridges. They are durable and easy to operate. People are always telling me that they backup their data on CD's and DVD's or memory pens. Well, just as a friendly reminder; CD's and DVD's break easily. Do you have any of your DVD's that skip and that are scratched up beyond repair? That can be your data.

Virus removal.

I am constantly asked how to remove viruses. It is not as simple as running your anti-virus program. I am going to tell you the trick of the trade. Most Anti-virus programs are the same, the difference is the company who makes the Anti-virus program. Anti-Virus programs have what is called anti-virus definition files. These files tell the computer what is a virus and what is a good file. The same is true for Anti-Spy ware programs.

First - Disable system restore
Second - Update your anti-virus definition files
Third - Start your computer in Safe Mode
Fourth - Run a full scan in Safe Mode
Fifth - Delete the guaranteed files from your system
Sixth - Restart your computer
Seventh - Enable System Restore

To remove spy ware do as I tell you:

First - Download and install webroot spysweeper in your computer.
Second - Disable system restore
Third - Restart computer in safe mode
Fourth - Run Spysweeper
Fifth - Delete junk
Sixth - Restart computer
Seventh - Enable system restore

Truth and Myths of Wireless Networks

Wireless networks are inherently unsecured? False. A wireless network is a medium being used to communicate between computers and the Internet. With that said, you need to be concerned about the security in your Desktop or Laptop. With wireless networks you can have them configured for the medium to be encrypted, protecting the information traveling through the airwaves.

Wireless Networking Terms

802.11 -  A standard for wireless local area networks

802.11a - A standard for WLAN networks, operating at 5 GHz and providing 54Mbps. Range up to 30m.

802.11b - A standard for WLAN networks, operating at 2.4 GHz and providing 11 Mbps.  Range up to 100m.

Ad-Hoc Network - An Ad-Hoc wireless LAN is a group of computers each with wireless adapters, connected as an independent wireless LAN.

Hot Spot - A hotspot is a public location such as an airport, shopping mall or conference center that has readily accessible wireless networks.

Service Set Identifier (SSID) - A unique identifier that stations must use to be able to communicate with an access point. The SSID can be any alphanumeric entry up to a maximum of 32 characters.

SSID Broadcasting - To “announce” the Access Points presence by broadcasting the SSID.
